you may remember i was bitching that the new release of opera, 9.01, was messing up my livejournal style. i fixed that problem by changing the colour in the style from grey to blue (no, i've no idea why that worked).
and then i discovered that it was doing the same thing to my website. the grey text on the splash page and the pink header text on the content pages were both showing up black. i poked the stylesheet, i spent a while confusing the fuck out of myself at the markup validator website, and eventually i had wax, who uses the same copy of windows and the same release of opera, look at the page... and discovered that in her copy of opera it showed up just fine. still no idea what the fuck was going on, except then, completely by accident, i clicked the "fit to width" button on my toolbar (a new feature with opera 8), which toggled fit to width off... and suddenly made the page appear right. i discovered then that if you look at the splash and toggle fit to width on and off, it actually very slightly resizes the image, as well as screwing up the text.
well, mystery solved. but that, as wax says, is totally crazy talk.
