guinevere33 and i had been engaged by her mother to go around looking at a large number of houses for sale in our hometown, which took most of an exhausting day. since it was a dream the houses were pretty peculiar in their own right, too. several of them were like museums inside, with sections roped off with those velvet ropes and weird sculptures instead of furniture in them, and the lighting bizarrely low. we complained that it was hard to know what to think of a house for sale if parts of it are covered up in sculptures, velvet ropes, and huge eccentric fireplaces taking up the whole centre of the room which are more for appearance than for function. this last thing which we were told was a fireplace was kind of like a square thing four feet high or so made out of a lot of rough-hewn logs of blond wood.
then we went toguinevere33's house and discovered that her parents had installed a jacuzzi in the centre of the livingroom floor so she stayed to talk to them about it, and i went out to my childhood church, where i ended up sneaking into the false back of a closet full of giant barbie dolls still in their boxes to eavesdrop on some conversations. i occupied myself by counting the barbies and the other kind of dolls, and when my mom finally arrived i emerged to tell her (i found this fact distinctly worrying) that there were twice as many giant barbies as the other dolls, which were robotic. i'm kind of glad we didn't turn on the robotic dolls.
then we went home and i had an argument with my parents about goldfish crackers and my sister put a big soup tureen on the table, but before i ate soup i carried two pancakes with butter on them bare-handed into the room and, for lack of an empty plate, dropped them directly on the table cloth. (oddly, this was one of the most vivid parts of the dream.) later i picked them back up, still bare-handed, and put them on a plate to cut them up, but i didn't eat them.
