can you believe that i'm awake and at the university library at 8 am? yes, folks--cim got up just after 7. technically, i'm working. the way i work just now is thinking, "where could they be hiding the current issues of the journal of vertebrate paleontology (which i'm copying for a family friend, for $6/hr)?"

i'm also apparently the ONLY person in the library at this time, though it's supposed to have been open 1/2 an hour and there are supposed to be 30,000+ students at this abysmal hellhole of a university (not mine; could you tell?). let's just say that in the last several years they've reduced their science journal subscriptions by more than half. the journals they don't have are unbelievable, AND the copy machine is broken.

and forget the dewey decimal system AND alphabetical order. "walking up and down the stacks," here i come. luckily they only have four shelves of current periodicals.

i'm sending

squirrelmir back behind the desk; i figure that a squirrel-man, even if he isn't an entree, is a better staff for the periodicals desk than none at all. that way, if anyone else comes in, they won't think that i am researching in a university that doesn't have staff at the desk.
