tuesday 9amso it snowed on halloween, when wax had worn her completely inadequate little silk esprit sneakers to work out of irrational dislike for boots. by the time she came home that afternoon the snow had turned to rain and started forming the deadly half-malleable slush that sticks in the waves and whorls and track marks of people's footprints and freezes overnight. this is more than a month earlier than it snowed last year or the year before. i hope it doesn't melt enough for the ice to turn smooth and instead snows a lot more, and soon. it seems like it was barely a month ago i was wading through the snow to [livejournal.com profile] emmuzka's little apartment in studentbyn with a bag full of dvds! i'd never have thought i'd come to love snow, after a fashion.

also, i have recently made the significant choice to switch from black to brown as a basic colour in my wardrobe, which is meaningless to wax, so i felt like i should share it with someone who would know what i was talking about. also also, does anyone want to rec me some source of sga recs (aside from the obvious big reccing communities either multifandom or sga-specific - it's not finding any at all that's the problem, it's finding a good one to start with; i don't want a huge comprehensive one, i'd prefer one kind of selective)?

ps. i don't think i ever mentioned that i have a new lj layout that's kind of gorgeous.

Oh man. Snowiness makes me all nostalgic for our early turku slasha meetups. Those were so much fun, although sometimes maybe a little bit too crowded.

the ass-raping couch ones? yeah, the snow makes me think of highlander, actually, not project runway.

My recommended fics I tag under "awesome." http://del.icio.us/zpm/sga%2Bawesome

I'm really fond of murlkin's recs: http://del.icio.us/murklins/recommended%2Bsga
She has another tag for "highly recommended," but that's super selective.

I like [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie's recs and I always head for them when I have a non-specific yearning to put my hand in the lucky dip and pull out a winner. But you have her on your flist so you probably know them already.

Brown is practically a colour - you got your chocolate and taupe and mushroom and camel and umber. Are you sure you're ready to leave black behind?

my winter boots are already brown, and i'm quite attached to them, so it's a question of practicality! there are months at a time when it's really not possible to go outside without them.

yeah, but mmwd doesn't really keep up with sga much better than i do. she admitted herself recently that she's pretty much given up on it.

Bugger. I am del.icio.using things as I read them but not particularly comprehensively.

http://del.icio.us/copracat

If I liked it, it's there but without anything useful like a comment. If it's tagged 'reading' I haven't read it yet.

Polyamorous recs are still doing SGA. http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/recs/index.html

thank you! actually, a delicious, assuming it's used as a log of things people like enough to want to bookmark (and assuming they don't like everything) is just about perfect for my purposes, i think: not too selective (which would mean i'd probably already encountered the story on a nother recs page) but not too broad.

I put together a primer (http://community.livejournal.com/rec_room/248780.html) for sga.
