life, weekend in pictures
6 Nov 2006 10:25 pmi spent an hour and a half in a café with a classmate, doing a mini fieldwork practise for sociological methodology. it was kind of hilarious - i felt like i was playing at being an anthropologist, counting where the people were sitting and with whom by gender and age. then i went shopping and, even though just last weekend i was telling
wax_jism that i didn't want a camel-coloured coat, i bought one (knee-length camel duffle coat, no hood), and also that little boys' hoodie with HIROHITO stencilled on the chest. my favourite japanese emperor! i couldn't pass it up! (speaking of clothes, omg i want this spot/stripe cardigan. and these sneakers.)
we got a ton of snow last weekend (although it's in the process of melting to slush again right now) and it was a really nice weekend, which my better half has requested that i post pictures of ("babies and cats," she said, "everybody wants to see pictures of that," which may not be true exactly, but her point is well taken.)
friday my brother-outlaw was here with carmela, and as usual, carmela made her own fun with the help of two strings of mardi gras beads and this time also all of the cushions off the couch. now the snowy season has officially started so has the season of cats looking for places to be cosy, mainly the radiators, which are warm even when it's snowing like mad outside, which it did friday (you can see the individual flakes in the big version of that picture), while wax and her brother chatted and wax knitted a sweater vest for me and i recited "jabberwocky" and taught everyone about portmanteau words. and also acted as a yarn-holder. that night it snowed even more and saturday wax and i watched tons of tv and the cats and the dog curled themselves up into tiny, wee little balls some more.

Date: 7 Nov 2006 02:16 am (UTC)Why does Grey's Anatomy suck so much? You could probably go essay-length and I'd love every bit of your op-ed.
I keep watching because I like the ensemble together. I have really absolutely no interest in Meredith/McDreamy and no particular love for Meredith's character but the show is named after her and I think the actress does well enough that I have stopped cringing whenever she's on screen.
I love Izzy, and Cristina, and Alex, and George and Dr. Bailey and everyone else as well. I guess it just sucks me in, kinda like comfort food? I watch it on Thursdays which is pretty much the end of the school week for me so it's nice to relax.

Date: 7 Nov 2006 08:29 am (UTC)grey's anatomy is stupidly melodramatic, sentimental, cheesy, and overly repetitive of its main themes with the artificial parallels it sets up around the topic of the voiceover of the week, to the point that it's like a sledgehammer. the dialogue is frequently really bad and sounds like a stage play instead of a tv show or anything like real life a lot of the time. and i hate many of the characters. i love christina and burke and bailey and callie, or at least i did love burke until he started acting like a big girl's blouse recently, and i like the chief and addison. i hate mcdreamy and george to the point that i usually froth and rant at the screen, and i find izzy annoying for the past half season or so.
i'd never watch it if it were a matter of watching on tv instead of downloading. i can't believe it beats csi, which is still one of my favourite shows.
