david burke was cuter and younger but... i just couldn't help it! i fell in love with hardwicke! and so i made three icons with him instead.

i loved 'lost without' so much though that i tried and tried to duplicate it with various source images, and in the end i ended up having to cut and paste because i couldn't find another of those sexy holmesian brow-quirks. and watson looks weird because i couldn't get the contrast high enough--every time i tried it washed his face out completely into this white mask. actually there was just no depth to begin with. i had to contour it with an airbrush. (the others are more colorful and pretteh.)

mrf. love! love! love! i'm falling into a new obsession.

Oh Burke is definitly not cuter. He might be younger. I've no idea. He might even be technically more attractive. But no one is cuter than Hardwicke.

i guess technically more attractive was what i meant. i found hardwicke repulsive at first glance. he grew on me gradually.

oh how can you look at those eyes and be repulsed?

(I can't believe I just said that. *blink* I seem to be further into this fandom than I've gone into any other fandom before...)

::cackles:: oh, but it's not bad. i mean, it's a literary fandom, very rich in canon, not low in quality, and not very active. so it's safe. now, settle down to re-read it all, and then--are you getting sleepy yet?--pick a slashybit and write a story... ;)

this repulsed me.

(you can see the person who saved it had re-sized all the pictures on her page to the same dimensions without cropping--so it's warped. took me forever to fix it for an icon [never used]:

this one didn't do a lot to endear him to me either--you'll agree it's pretty unflattering.

i've had a hard time taking flattering caps of him too, because his face is pale and so is his hair, which makes for low contrast. of course if i had a dvd drive... but i don't. i take caps with my picturephone. ::sigh::

Ok, those are pretty bad. In fact he might be one of those people who has to be in motion to be attractive. Not sure. When I picture him I keep seeing some of the looks he gives Holmes, or the sympathetic manner he has with other people--he's quite sweetly distressed when someone is in undeserving trouble. Or something like that. Now I'm not even sure what I was thinking, specifically. But he seemed like a very solid, dependable, kind version of Watson. With a sweet vulnerability. Burke had more of a hard edge to his looks, which didn't contrast enough with Brett. No, Hardwicke managed to be a total contrast to Holmes without being the clumsy oaf that the old movies made out to be.

that's occurred to me--has to be in motion--however, in a longer shot, where you can see the nice solid build of his body, he's very nice...:

Image
(the man with the twisted lip--obv. too soft-focus and high-contrast for an icon, but still v/ nice)

er, heh, i don't have the good cap of the long shot i was thinking of. it's the scene in the bruce-partington plans outside the window of the admiralty (?) building in the bushes that was on my mind. watson strode across the lawn with his collar turned up and my heart fluttered. !!!

Hee. I don't think anything of Watson ever made my heart flutter. I left that to Brett. But I was drawn to him for some reason, even more than Brett occasionally. He just exuded niceness.

i tell you, i was astonished. 'what's this?' said i. 'a heart flutter? for watson? it must be the upper arms.'
