crazy packages from cim's parents
21 Dec 2006 09:10 pmtoday i got a crazy package from my parents. there's a christmas present in it which i am fairly sure is candy, and also a birthday card from my sister, and also:
remember how, in july, they sent me a floor-length turtleneck velvet nightgown belonging to my mother? well... it actually might be cold enough to wear it soon. i mean, it was -5 two days ago, although at the moment the ice is busy melting again. maybe soon, though!
- my high school diploma, which is mounted in a little white-satin-lined leather booklet. i'd forgotten about that since i am never going to need it. i have my international bacchalaureate diploma in my important documents folder - it's the one i needed to get into the university; the other one is irrelevant.
- one (1) book of the hundreds i left at home, but not one of the many i have asked them to send me (though i do like it): dave barry's guide to guys. which is funny because - dave barry. and yet... what about the dave barry book that i actually did ask them to send?
- a miniature paddington bear designed to clip to the edge of curtains (i've had it since i was a kid. they know i'm fond of paddington.)
- a forwarded letter from my aunt
- a packet of small sheets of paper designed to go in a planner i bought in japan in 2000. a planner which i no longer have. (i can only assume they were thinking of my remark that i'd like them to send me the japanese things from my japanese souvenir box: i had in mind, like, rice paper or origami paper or maybe some of the little silk coin purses or one of my many japan-related books or japanese handkerchiefs... not miniature lined paper. but, you know, whatever. evidently they tried.)
- the first time i came to finland in january 2003, my sister was 11, and for a souvenir i bought her a little life-size toy cellphone at tiimari. it came in a package with some pastel hair clips and scrunchies. well, they sent me the original packaging that it came in (with the price sticker still on: i left it, back in the day, for novelty, you know, 'omg finnish price stickers in €'), with all of the pastel hair accessories in it (though not the toy phone). possibly they forgot that they belonged to my sister, but even so, they know that my hair is now ½" in length, so wtf?
