28 Jan 2007 02:52 pmwe were supposed to babysit today, so we pretty much cleaned the entire apartment - sometimes we just vaccuum and do the dishes, but it's been awhile, so. my hands have these sore chafed spots from the new vaccuum now, and carmela has a fever and won't be coming. so we're going to reward ourselves by going to the movies at least once. marie antoinette at julia kl. 16.00, if anyone wants to meet us. wax invited V, but i don't think she's heard back. we've discussed going back out later to see the black dahlia at 20.00, if we manage to cook and eat dinner fast enough.
also the Norwegian paid me for the translating i did in november and december, and i am now somewhat more than €300 richer (which is more pocket change than i usually have at a time, but isn't actually an outrageously high sum since i translated somewhere around 30 hours). for now i'm just enjoying the sensation, although i blew a bit of it yesterday on peanut butter and expensive pesto and skärgårdslimpa (which is the perfect accompaniment to miso paste and oh so delicious!).
i read the wee free men this weekend, and it would've gone a lot faster except i love the nac mac feegle too much, and kept having to stop and laugh like three times a page. plus, i'm almost done with pratchetts... just in time to tackle the five or six novels i'd never read before that arrived in my parents' m-bag. i'm more concerned that they sent me their only copies of thorn and dominion, which are probably the two weirdest (and possibly rarest?) of fred saberhagen's dracula novels. i don't think my dad loves the series as much as i do, but he definitely rereads parts of it from time to time, and it appears that thorn is actually out of print in north america.
