cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (godlike)

I've typed in aim, and consequently in other chat programs, and then lj when I got this journal, without capital letters for years now. It's been so long that I wasn't actually able to remember the beginning, but [livejournal.com profile] isilya has helped me to draw the conclusion that I picked it up in popslash from my earliest chatting partners (many of whom I don't even know anymore - but hi, [livejournal.com profile] thelionforreal, hi [livejournal.com profile] silviakundera!). It was, she informs me, something of a fad there. It stuck because it helps to speed up typing in chat and is very convenient there, of course, but I find I can't stick to it anymore because of the highly increased quantity of formal typing I'm having to do in emails and chunks of translating for my pal the Norwegian. I'm unable to compartmentalise, or something, and instead find myself switching back and forth unconsciously. So I think I'll be switching now, at least for the purpose of this lj. (I like the way they look in story titles, though.)
