damn sisu-having cold germs
9 Mar 2007 02:10 pm Wax says maybe this cold that I have now is a) slightly different and b) slightly harder to shake off because my natural immunities are used to Alabama!cold germs and I am exposed here to hardy, sisu-having1 Finnish!cold germs.
It's as good an explanation as anything.
Not that it's weird for the stuffy nose to cling a week after a cold is gone - that used to happen to me because of not getting to rest enough and having a wimpy immune system - but a week later now, I'm sneezing all the time (I've never had a cold that made me do that in my entire life), and the sneeze is accompanied by a burning sensation in my nose that's strong enough to make my eye water! I feel so lame. Of course I know other people do get these symtoms because I see them on tv and read them in bad hurt/comfort fic ending in feverish sex and so on, but it's definitely weird for me.
1. sisu, as a concept, is just so incredibly inherently funny that you don't even have to make jokes about it.
But that doesn't stop Markku from Finland (link from Brother Windows) from explaining that it's like the Force "in Star Trek". (Note: the funniest thing about Markku from Finland might be the comments on the videos from people who didn't get that they were supposed to be funny.)
Even wax - who is actually a giant wimp - tries to have sisu. Apparently it's just in the Finnish soul.
