The equivalent of Payless Shoes in northern Europe (as my experience leads me to believe) is about twice as expensive (or maybe more like half again as expensive). There's northern Europe for you.

The other day wax and I both fell in love with these incredibly comfortable and adorably retro little heels, which are €32. They'll probably be sold out when I go back there. They remind me of Kathy's shoes in Singin' in the Rain. The 20s were imprinted on me at an early age. Also shoes from that period are just empirically cuter.

Adorable! And not a single zebra hair in sight!

Zebra is more... um... well, I don't really know what period, but I still want zebra wallabes. :(

However, they would not be the perfect accompaniment to my little black lace dress o' sex, which these are.

Pretty shoes! I'm a bit envious that you can wear something like that... (I usually shop in the men's department, since I've got unusually wide and sensitive feet. Oh, well. There are some pretty men's shoes as well.)

I didn't even know northern Europe had something like "Payless Shoes". I've only ever seen price-reduced shoes in the stores.

Do you mean that in northern Europe you've only seen originally expensive shoes marked down, and no shoes that were moderately priced to begin with? I mean, Dinsko is just a relatively cheap chain which sells mostly its own proprietary brands (which is why I compared it to Payless), but it's not actually the only source of somewhat affordable footwear, just the most fashionable one which I have discovered (discount dep't store Anttila, for example, is a treasure-trove of the Hideous & Cheap, which it mixes liberally with the Hideous & Slightly Pricey and the Attractive But Overpriced). But they only operate in Sweden, Norway and Finland, or so their website leads me to believe. I doubt they're as widespread as Payless, either (which is an every-town-that-has-a-mall type of place); I've seen branches in Turku, Salo, and the Helsinki area, but those are all pretty major locations.

Well, I know stores that have moderately priced shoes, like Dinsko, but I don't know any stores that actually have that in their name, like "Payless", or actively advertise that they sell only moderately priced shoes. I guess that's why I never thought to compare those. Also, I'm not sure whether those stores are all over Germany or whether they are only in the few cities I know. But then, I never had that much of an interest in shoes, so I'm pretty clueless when it comes to things like that.

Those are way cute, and I you definitely need them! I got these at Payless. A little less cute, but more versatile for my wardrobe:
Tan wedge sandals (http://www.payless.com/Catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?&TLC=Womens&SLC=WomensSandals&BLC=WomensSandalsDress&Width=Regular&ItemCode=55891&LotNumber=054485&Type=Adult&Popularity=441&DescriptiveColor=Tan)

I find it very hard to balance in wedges of that type. Oddly enough, the shoes I linked to are actually very comfortable and not difficult to balance in at all, though they look rather less sensible than your sandals.

Of course, if I buy them, they won't be all that versatile for my wardrobe - black pumps are a little on the sober side for me in the summer, even with all the skirts I wear! I've been on the lookout for some to fill the Dressy But Not Quite Formal gap in my shoe wardrobe, the sort I could wear with a cocktail-type dress or to a sudden wedding or funeral, that sort of thing. (I have an exquisite dress already, with no shoes to match.) In day to day terms your wedges would be more useful for me. :/ I still need something similar for this spring, in fact.
