Okay, you know, the really horrifying part of badfic isn't the badfic, it's the comments on the badfic. (Well, sometimes the badfic is a bit horrifying, but it's more amusing than painful on the whole, most of the time.)

So we went to shop for china while we were in town because I broke wax's last Ikea teacup, and there are two new colours of Teema! They're called turquoise and sand. *__* Wax was like "Do you regret our color choice?" But turquoise and sand are just trendy colours whereas we will both no doubt love green forever. Although I did sort of flit around being like "What about green and taupe - or green and blue? Or green and blue and stripes!" She was tolerant. I - seriously, man, dishes. They're so great. I love dishes.

Sofia brought her bad, bad little dog over and he terrorised Perry in his well-meaning cheeky terrier way as usual, and we sat at the kitchen table and drank tea and talked like grownups instead of watching tv, for once. I taught Sofia to make paper cranes out of the pages of a Clas Ohlson ad flyer. It did finally stop snowing, too.

it started with the article. really, it started long before that, but the article was the catalyst, using both "extremely close" and "like brothers" to describe their relationship. nino's eyebrows inched higher and higher as he read it, thinking, the bits about the movie aren't too inaccurate, how did they get the rest of it so wrong?

"brothers?" nino said to ohno, pointing to the picture of ohno in the magazine, smiling in a baffled way to something out of the frame.

"what?" ohno said, holding his pencil still and turning to look; not difficult, as they were crowded together in the loveseat of their trailer, taking a break from filming. "i didn't said that."

nino made a face at him. it wasn't that he didn't trust ohno to know exactly what he was to nino (definitely not brothers), but it was possibly that he didn't trust ohno to be paying attention when he answered questions.

"i definitely didn't say that! she asked me and i - "

"but what did the translator say?" nino asked.

"saa." his eyes unfocused and narrowed; nino could practically see the gears in his head turning.

nino asked, patiently: "did it sound like NO or like YES?"

etc etc. :D that would be a good starting point, wouldn't it?

This is a good way to introduce the American Version of The International Blockbuster Film, which is the entry point in the timeline according to our plan anyway :D

I think perhaps I should take that ironically and yet it has a certain surreal post-modernist appeal. Transcendentalism! China. And hey, it's always good when it ceases snowing.

I always am a little wary of comments on my own fic after reading the comments on badfic. Because I'm mostly like, "People like/read this stuff?"

I think you'll often notice that it is two almost completely mutually exclusive groups of people, though. There is a contingent of people who like both, which are people who just like everything, but the bulk of admirers on a much-admired badfic in a plebe community will be people whose names never crop up in the normal bits of fandom! They're like Badfic Scene Kids or something. They have their own little playground where they like it better without punctuation. Sometimes they're not unintelligent, too. It's kind of creepy in a way, but I guess the infinite diversity of life and all that.
