Wax's mom's new summer cottage, dating from 1880, with separate guest cottage (the picture is the guest cottage because then my camera ran out of batteries!), woodshed, and sauna - moss-covered stone walls around the property, licheny boulders poking through the earth in the sloping meadow, thousands and thousands of waist-high purple and lilac lupines, birches and evergreens, a tremendous woodstove.
I feel simultaneously powerfully reminded of home, and fangirlishly impressed to the point of squeaking and bouncing a lot - sometimes in Finland I forget I'm here, and then sometimes the foreign, Old World-ness of the place beats around my head, and I'm thinking, holy shit, I'm in the illustrations in a book. It's real. I've been leafing through Carl Larsson's paintings of his country cottage for furniture- and sign-painting ideas.
