Okay, I lose at dogwalking. What a silly question!

So the real idea behind having a dog is that - well, when I was minding my own business at the animal shelter one day in pursuit of community service hours for my IB diploma, he made this hound dog face at me - you know, like Gerard's faces? There wasn't a rational reason behind getting a dog. I'm more of a cat person in that my favourite thing to do is lounge around all day reading. I just fell irresistably in love with his little puppy face.

But if there WERE a rational reason, then one could say that besides being a soothing and anti-depressive force, an adoring dog is an iron law that makes you go outside and walk around approximately every twelve hours, and as long as he's relatively energetic, that provides a modicum of exercise as well as an energizing infusion of fresh air and sunlight (you know, when it's not pissing down rain/snow/sleet/etc).

Except now that he's - not even old, he's just ten - well, Perry is now even lazier than I am. He used to wake me up and prance around near the door to beg to go outside  (and then do the Beagle Dance and perform backflips in the air when he noticed that I was giving in)... now sometimes when I get up, he stays in the bedroom zonked out for an hour before he even staggers out into the livingroom, only to conk out again on the puppy bed next to my feet. So instead of guilting me into leaving, he's making me feel guilty for wanting to go outside - because he's so sweet all curled up there, and it would be mean to disturb him! *facepalm*

My dog used to be like that. We would have to coax him yard by bitter yard. With biscuits. Which kind of defeated the purpose of exercise. Sometimes he would just sit down and refure to move. Or roll over on his back and refuse to move. Passers-by loved that shit.

My dog is less lazy once he gets outside because he gets addicted to following trails. But sometimes he gets tired and just stops walking and sort of stands there making this face: ^_^ and refusing to move, too. Today he did that and I let him and then a golden lab came up behind us and he was like OMG HOW DARE YOU COME NEAR ME!!!!! THIS IS MY BOARDWALK!!!! howling and lunging and I had to drag him off by the neck.
