cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (angst)

I dreamed about the Japanese exchange student who lived with me seven years ago, when I was in high school, and her family, whom I stayed with in Japan for a summer.

It was a nice dream and I was reluctant to wake up, even though it didn't make any sense. Even in the dream it was poignant because I recognised and missed her and her parents, even though I also dreamed that I was meeting them for the first time.

It's hard to be reminded in dreams about relationships you regret losing - people you're genuinely attached to whom you've lost over the years.

I had a friend in high school whose "aunt" was the Japanese woman who stayed as an exchange student with her mother when they were both sixteen, and they'd kept up a life-long friendship with yearly visits (helps if you're both rich, right?). She gave Mayumi and me a pep talk at a party, once, when she was still there, and I met the "aunt" at last at my friend's wedding. She immediately knew who I was and when I told her I'd lost contact with Mayumi, she sparkled at me and told me it's not too late and I should try to contact her.

I don't know - I've lost all means to electronic communication with her over the years, but her parents might still live in the same house. I've been toying with the idea of writing to her for about a month now.

I hope you do go through with it. :) When I was little, we had two different exchange students- Jaun (Spain) and Phillipe (France). The frist couple of years with both we kept in touch but eventually, things change. Juan stopped writing after the first year, but yet Phillipe kept writing, and came back twice. Then We had to leave without a return address to get away from my biological father.

for 5 years, we were out of contact. We moved back to PA, and eventually we got a hold of him again. Shortly after, He invited my mother over (He'd pay) to his wedding. She didn't go, as we still had issues that made leaving like that tricky, but If I ever need a place to stay In France, I could call him and I'd have Crash space. :D

Good luck!!!
