wax_jism's disjointed explanation of Star Trek and pon farr stories from your mind yet, dunautremonde - or if you're someone else and might be interested in pon farr Trek canon as background because of its implications for the genre (and fuck or die stories, and 'sex pollen' stories, and all their relatives) - then you might be interested in this ostensibly humourous recap of the episode that I wrote a couple of years ago: it's a detailed scene-by-scene summary with a shitload of screencaps, sort of like an annotated In Fifteen Minutes (except not because that title is (c) cleolinda) with loving sarcasm, but not as hilarious (as Cleo, that is).
Of course, to really understand the phenomenon I think you'd need a whole other one of these to cover the fanon, too, but I've never written one of those.
