cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (k/s pondering)

a lot of times they're having conversations, but i don't bother making annotated scenes because the spoken content of the conversation is plotty and not really pertinent to their faces and body language.  also, i would have to switch computers to play the dvd.

kirk's brilliant strategy to clue spock in that he's been kidnapped and replaced with an android?  is to think really hard "that's enough, mr spock!  i'm sick of your half-breed interference!" while they're "imprinting" his "engram" on the android, so first off it says that to spock.  because of course the best, quickest and most efficient way to alert spock that robot!kirk is absolutely an imposter is to have him not flirty and adoring.

but nonetheless it gives spock pain.  awwh, spock.

here's the annotated scene!  it's the closer, the little conversation on the bridge that traditionally closes out an episode of tos looking back at what's happened in some way.  these conversations often have really good bits of banter among the Big Three.
SPOCK looks over at KIRK in the chair, thinking to himself, and decides to come over.

CHAPEL is just leaving; KIRK has signed a padd for her.
CHAPEL: thank you for letting me make the decision, captain. i'm quite certain i'm doing the right thing.
KIRK: she's staying with the ship.
SPOCK puts his hands on the arm of KIRK's chair, frowns, looks away.

KIRK: something bothering you, mr spock?

SPOCK, a little hesitantly: frankly, i WAS rather dismayed by your use of the term "half-breed", captain.

KIRK stares at him as if he isn't quite sure he's heard correctly.
SPOCK: you must admit, it is an unsophisticated expression.
KIRK: i'll remember that, mr spock. [pause. KIRK looks at SPOCK out of the corner of his eye and continues deliberately]

KIRK: the next time i find myself in a similar situation.

SPOCK smirks, licks his lips and rolls his eyes a little while KIRK watches him, also smiling.

KIRK: steady as we go, helm.

Hehehe. They are so in love. Spock couldn't be more 'come hither' if he tried.

i think the fact that that was the first thing to occur to kirk as against his nature is pretty telling too.
