cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (la femme)

I didn't mention here, though I meant to, that last night I dreamed that Gabe and Maja were a pair of conmen (and sometime partners) who were supposed to be picking up me and my grandparents and driving us around my hometown. (Gabe buggered off to bond with a hobo in the Dollar General parking lot, though, and possibly get high, leaving me and Maja to handle the luggage.)

They'd been through a long series of identities in their tempestuous partnership, or maybe their breakups were more for practicality or casual, but they kind of dug each other, too, I think. Maja told me and my step-grandmother and a Swedish woman who recognised her that they had ceased to be Gabe & Maja and then ceased to be the wealthy Mr. & Mrs. Whatever (which identities had actually died, sort of) and were now Mr. Gabe & the girl, for a while. I said did that mean they'd had to kill them off and laundered the money and she was like, "Let's just say we don't have it anymore."

WHERE CAN I GET THIS STORY, OKAY.

I tried to get Wax to write it, but she doesn't know enough about conmen. I'm going to order a copy of Addie Pray for our mutual research (eta- ordered. From amazon.co.uk, and because it's out of print, from the marketplace, where everyone was insisting on selling it for £0.01 - what's up with that? Are they making 2 cents' profit on the shipping? In what universe does that kind of profit make sense?). There's always Ocean's 11 fanfic, as well.

This idea is appealing enough to me that I'd read it as straight-up het, even without any other awesome pairings (Alex/Ryland is preferred, though).

This should be written! Even if someone has to look up money laundering in the dictionary.

And The Sting is the best conmen movie of all time, IMO. And has better fic, even if it is just that one amazing story.

Or the encyclopedia. I'm not really sure how they'd go about it... maybe they can be secondary characters.
