improvisational baking
3 Mar 2008 07:48 pmI call Loke The Professor in my head. "Gubben" rolls off the tongue better in spoken Swedish, however. He always looks serious and frequently a little suspicious.
So my hand slipped with the brown sugar today and my oatmeal became inedible. "It tastes like pudding," I told Wax. "Or icecream. Or cookies." She said I should bake it, so I added an egg, some butter, some flour and spices and baking soda, then some more sugar and some more oatmeal, then some more oil. The first batch came out insufficiently sweet and too dense, so I added more oil and a lot more sugar and vanilla, plus pinches of cocoa and instant cappuccino. The final batch are still a little under sweet and overly spicy, and the cappuccino is more like a hint than a theme. Still, they're edible. Might be better with strawberries and whipped cream, though. This really hasn't been my week for baking.
