Swans are not assholes! They are not mean just for the sake of meanness -- they are mean because of their enormous devotion to their babies and their spouse! And they really do mate for life or close to it. So, ya know, give him the bagel and no-one will get hurt.

Did you know that a male swan is called a "cob" and a female is a "pen"? 'Tis true.

You've never gotten hurt in the process of giving a bread product to a swan? I have. And I've fed emus, which are a lot bigger than swans and just as assertive (but less mean.)
