cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (calligraphy)

I'm looking for the word or slang term that means a shallow/superficial (possibly selfish) teenager who cares for nothing but friends/clothes/boys.

ETA: Wax suggests "Heathers" but this carries an implication of popularity; likewise "chav" carries implications about the way they dress - I'm looking for a word that applies to any superficial and self-obsessed teenie or young person (must include age, thus "ditz", "airhead" and the like are inappropriate) who is also all about the materialistic and/or her or his social life, without being able to talk about other subjects (generally dubbing them "boring" if they don't involve "hanging out" or talking to friends on the telephone or spending money).

I can't think of one. English is what I'm really wondering about but other languages are definitely desired as well! Finnish is "pissis". ETA: We have another! Dutch is "biggen" (lit. "piglets").

Means absent-minded without necessarily implying age or shallowness.

Teeniebopper is the best I can come up with at this hour of the morning. Either that or valley girl, but that seems more specific.

I don't think that contains all the specific implications I'm thinking of, alas. It can be used to convey age with only a faint tinge of derogatory, in my experience. As for "valley girl", it unfortunately also implies some other things as well...

Crud. "Teenybopper" was the best one I could think of in English, too. I think of all the things you're thinking of, but oh well.

My only other option is "Disney-channel-girl". But that's not a real word, isn't accurate, and would describe my mother on certain mornings (she loves The Weekenders and Recess...wait, that's Toon Disney).

Yes!!! Now I have two.

I hold out hope for the UK. They have so many words like that, they might have one...

I've not heard that one a lot, but I can see how it could mean that. Suddenly I'm wondering about the etymology of 'bimbo'...

'Pissis' also carries implications about the way they dress, and how they behave (ie. drinking, hanging around town, being loud and swearing a lot).

Do they have to dress like sluts and wear a lot of makeup?

Yeah, and they hang around in malls and drink two bottles of cider after which they proclaim they're sooooo drunk. The word pissis refers to their supposed habit of peeing in the bushes in public places.

Then again, sometimes the word is used to mean any girl in her early teens, especially one that dresses fashionably. There's a lot of leeway.

I've never heard the former two, but the last implies either popularity or social class, depending on the dialect/context.

This has absolutely nothing to do with this entry, but I'm fairly certain that I remember you're trying to learn Finnish as well, and I found this really neat vocab site (http://www.finnishvocab.com/#), I thought you might want to look too. :)
