Okay... anyone out there still watching House? Because "Thirteen/Cameron" stories keep showing up on [livejournal.com profile] girlslash, and I just can't get past "Thirteen?"

In other news, Portia de Rossi's wedding dress made me want a giant puffy cupcake skirt. (Wax: You want a giant pink princess skirt? Me: Maybe it could be some other colour.) I used to have a black one, circa junior prom. I wonder what happened to that...

(Why don't I have a tag for "Random, stupid questions?")

Yeah. I'm assuming you know who Cameron is. "13" is the name Dr. House uses for one of his new ducklings, played by Olivia Wilde. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirteen_(House)

Her real name is Rena Hadley, but everyone at PPTH refers to her as 13, the numberr she had as a contestant at the beginning of last season. to tell you anything further would spoil last season completely. :D :D :D

Okay. Although really, wikipedia does a better job for most of it. . .

About midway through the season, We find out that the character is bisexual, resulting in House making snide remarks/double entendres for the rest of the season about her, and how she can do various things both ways. Example: a patient needs an ultrasound both in the usual, prone position AND standing up to confirm Dx at the end of an episode- and so House Says "You can do it both ways, right?" *insert Thirteen staring at him* "-The ultrasound, both ways?"

She tries to keep as much as possible about her private life/past quiet, even going as far as allowing her co-workers to assume things that aren't true. If everyone lies, hers are usual lies of omission or by redirection. She also is much more interested in the facts than the people, although how much of this has to do with her personal insecurities is unknown, though it is implied.

That said, we do know a few things: She's openly bisexual (though I'm pretty sure we've yet to see her act on it?); Her name is Rena Hadley (which we only know from ID badges and the like- the only character to call her by any name was Cuddy, who called her "Dr. Hadley" to which House remarked "You don't even know her name!". Interestingly enough, Thirteen doesn't affirm or deny either Doctor's comments, and seems to prefer to be known as Thirteen.); And her mother died of Huntington's Disease.

One of the minor plot arcs this past season had to do with Her refusing to be tested for it- Huntington's is a hereditary disease- while House pressured her. I think this highlights the similarities *and* differences between Thirteen and Cameron as characters. Thirteen has been described as the "Anti-Cameron", and in her general approach to things, she is. Rather than Cameron's full disclosure, Thirteen prefers to stay mum; Where Cameron would be a bleeding heart or overly passionate, Thirteen is generally fairly stoic- which makes her emotional reactions interesting when she does have them. She also seems hard to shock, while Cameron was easily shocked by human behavior, And she's tolerant rather than blindly accepting- and has been noted as non-judgmental.

The similarities, other than gender and profession, have to do with a stubborn streak a mile wide and an inner set of guidelines that they try to follow fairly closely, although in Thirteen's case what they are aren't exactly obvious at first glance to to her stoic exterior. Back to the Huntington's issue, It parallels Cameron's refusal to Get the HIV test back in Season 2. The difference? Thirteen is the one who eventually decides to test herself (Cameron had to be tricked) and *spoiler for season finale* Thirteen tests positive for Huntingtons in the last season of the finale- interestingly, she tests herself, and all indications are that she won't tell anyone. And while Cameron Declined out of Fear, Thirteen's protests were "because not knowing allows her to summon the bravery to do things she thinks she can't do" (wikipedia)

Additional facts (gleaned from the House Wiki (http://house.wikia.com/wiki/Number_13)):

Her age is unknown, except that she is LESS than 28 years old, as she had not been born by the time the movie "Altered States" (1980) was released.

Her specialty is internal Medicine. The fact that she has a specialty and is so young is an interesting thing to speculate from.

In comparison to Cameron's blind faith in House, Thirteen's appears to be factually motivated- and if she disagrees, she's not afraid to protest, albeit in a less personal manner than her predecessor.

If you like, you can watch random past episodes for free at the Fox website. :)

The Amber ("cutthroat Bitch") vs Thirteen rivalry in the first half of the season is pretty amusing, though it does highlight how crazy Amber is. But Amber is a whole 'nother sack of worms. XD

AAhahah, sorry, I should've just gone to the Wiki I guess, but thank you for writing all that up for me! How fascinating that the bisexuality is even a canon issue!

Am now happily imagining gender-bent Cary Grant movies with Ellen as Cary and Portia as Grace or Audrey. I mean, nobody is Cary and nobody is Grace and nobody but nobody is Audrey but it would be cute as a button. As. A. Button.

But I totally get that. In the PERIOD and spirit, right, with the comedian versus the big-eyed glamour puss love interest. I'd watch it. *___*

I <3 Oliva Wilde (aka Thirteen). I have had a total girl crush on her since she played a recurring role on season 2 of "The OC" (that character was also bisexual, come to think of it). It's the eyes; I'm a sucker for eyes.

Oh, the one who had an affair with Marissa? I saw the gay parts. I didn't recognise her with dark hair.
