  1. Buy a Finnish cinnamon roll from the bakery.

  2. Also buy milk, whipped butter or margarine, and powdered sugar.

  3. Mix a dab of soft but not liquid butter/margarine with powdered sugar, a bit at a time, using a fork (in a small bowl or large teacup) until the consistency is stiff and holds shape. Drizzle in milk and mix utnil smooth(ish).

  4. Pour icing over the cinnamon roll, or else dip the roll into the icing with every bite.

In general, an American dessert may be made out of a Nordic dessert by adding half again or even double as much sugar as the Nordic dessert calls for. It is only sometimes necessary to add fats/oil as well.

And in general, a non-Nordic dish may be made out of a Nordic dish (or a dish of non-Nordic origin sold hereabouts under somewhat false pretenses) by using half again or double as much salt/spices. (Sometimes I think I should get a travel-size sealable salt container and take it with me EVERYWHERE for restaurants and other people's houses where such luxuries are not available.)

Seeing the pattern?

Hmm. Arnolds donut shop has introduced their cinnamon roll and it's dipped in icing. Very delicious looking, but I haven't tried it since I very seldom eat bakery products. But the huge posters advertising their new "Spinny" (yes, it has a name) makes my mouth water.

Yes, I've seen the posters. It's more glazed, I think, with the icing drizzled on the top. It's still nothing like TJ Cinnamon's:

Oh, right. I haven't actually seen anything like that before. Also, i can imagine why those wouldn't be that much a hit in Finland. We aren't that much for icing, but the dough, and lots of that ;) If Finns want something really sweet, we just go for danishes, I guess.

Well, it's not wholly unlike Danishes - those also typically have icing as well as the jelly filling. Different sort of pastry of course.
