lipstick jungle
13 Sep 2008 11:50 amEvery now and then when I run out of Project Runway and am craving fashion tv enough to put up with the stupidity, I will watch America's Next Top Model. I have tried watching Gossip Girl for the same purpose, but found the plot kept annoying me to the point of back-button, as is all too common in teenie-related badfic. I thought I would try Lipstick Jungle, which stars Brooke Shields, because she is hot, and at least the main characters are in their thirties (it's by the woman who wrote Sex and the City, and wow, remind me to NEVER read any of her books, because the writing is just as bad, if not worse), so it wouldn't be teenies, right? Except it's even more offensive than Gossip Girl, what with 1/3 of the plot, right off the bat, and 1/3 of the main characters too, concerned with committing adultery. She waffles about it in a disgusting manner, then goes back the next day, then sits around crying to herself not ten minutes later. Wow, here's an idea: don't commit adultery in the first place, then. However, the other two plots, from the pilot, seemed all right, and one of them introduced as a love interest a man who looks a bit like Peter Wingfield's younger American brother (although his nose is not as great)(aha: it's Andrew McCarthy)(SEE????) - handsome and funny-looking, and playing an amusing asshole. Still, I don't know if I can stick it out in the face of the adultery plots and the fur-collared white trenchcoats. I mean, come on. Do you want to be the next SatC or don't you? I know Gossip Girl seems to have the style-setting sewn up, but is it time to just give up? Fur-collared white trenchcoat?
