cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (salute)

Yesterday we went out to Wax's mom's summer cottage for a spring cleaning, and proceeded to rake leaves, prune, weed, shake the dust out of the rugs and sweep the floors. After five hours' work we both slept about sixteen, and are now lying about and nursing our wounds. I have aches in the strangest places and I'm dying for some pizza, red wine, and coffee icecream. That would be the perfect meal right now. Too bad everything's closed.

God, that makes me miss Sweden, that little stuga! YAY.

(Though it's much more "yay," I imagine, now that the cleaning is done. *g*)

I have it on authority that Ängisbacka was formerly, in fact, a torp! It's very old-timey and rustic on the inside.

Oh cool! So pretty old, then, eh? I loved that about Sweden—and all of Europe, I guess, but I've not spent much time there besides Sweden—how likely one was to find an old building tucked side-by-side with a new one. Not that America doesn't have history, not at all, but it struck me more there, I guess.

Yes, the history's rather older over here! One doesn't just stumble onto paving stones dating from the middle ages in America.

I forget the source of this quote entirely, but someone once said that the difference between the Americans and the English is that the Americans think 200 years is a long time and the English think 200 miles is a long distance. Kind of a clever articulation of that fact, seems to me. ;)

Oh god... I don't even want to think about it. >.> I have two HUGE yards to take care of. The summer house and this one, both old farm houses with more yard than is legal, I swear. It's going to kill me.

Yeah, I did alllll the raking pretty much. Fortunately there's only one giant birch and the rest are mostly firs and apples.
