cimorene: cartoony drawing of a woman's head in profile giving dubious side-eye (she's so refined)

  • I didn't realise until [livejournal.com profile] isilya told me last week that Billie Piper was starring in a tv show called Secret Diary of a Call Girl. After that Wikipedia told me that it was based on a wildly popular blog of an actual anonymous call girl (unless it's fake), and after that I started watching it. I'm enjoying it, and I like the pacing and length of the episodes.

But what I really want to be doing is watching all of The West Wing over, from the beginning. [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism and I have been talking for a while about doing that and we almost started a few months ago, but then we didn't. And now, of course, we're doing NCIS, but maybe after that.

  • I think I'm done with hats, for now, after crocheting five (one of which I unravelled again). There's just a limit to how many hats you can make, y'know? Maybe I will have Wax show me round knitting so I can make some legwarmers. Or maybe I will try to teach myself to knit cables. Is that really complicated? Or is it possible that I could find instructions somewhere on the internet, for example?

  • I would watch The Brian Austin Green, Shirley Manson and That Really Adorable Detective Jim Ellison Are You Kidding Me OMG Is That A Shoutout? Chronicles even without Summer Glau, Lena Headey and... whoever plays John "Emo" Connor. Brian Austin Green is actually good, and on top of that I still haven't gotten over laughing every time he's onscreen because, like, he's Brian Austin Green. And Shirley Manson, well, enough said. But what the fuck is up with John Connor? I mean, he's just really, really annoying. He's a whiny, emo little bitch. Life's not fair! DUH! Boo-hoo! NO, you cannot be a normal teenager - now go to your room! It's not just that he's railing at fate, it's that he's so sulky and immature and annoying about it. And more than that, it's that I cannot remotely believe this guy is going to grow up into a tactical genius, or a leader of men, or a symbolic Jesus figure. So, in short, I would like the show better if it didn't have his plot at all, even if that meant we also got a lot less of Summer. Summer is awesome, but there is some highly suspect writing going on here. Actually, the Terminators themselves are the only parts of the writing that I actually like. Not just Summer and Shirley Manson, but Cromarte (sp?) too.

  • Some fandoms hardly have any AUs at all and some are completely crazy full of them. I wonder why that is?

cables in knitting are most often charted instructions rather than written out, but you will find both. As for help, I recommend knittinghelp.com and their great videos, or of course a search on youtube... I've never knitted cables in a project yet, personally, only in swatches to get a basic idea how they work. I don't think it's especially hard though!

There's actually a book version of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, too, which I think is the blog but in book form? IDK. I have it, and I'm slowly making my way through it.

cables look a LOT harder than they actually are. If you can handle basic knitting and purling, you should be able to manage cables just fine.

My favourite knitting instruction site is TECHknitting (http://techknitting.blogspot.com/). She's amazingly clear in her entries and the illustrations are fantastic. She's on hiatus at the moment, but there are a few years of back-entries.

oh, ok. Well, we only have undyed natural wool, but the black is too scratchy to use really. I was thinking about using a dark tan and light silver.

To be clear, I have cream/off-white (unbleached white sheep), grey (a light silver), medium brown/tan, light tan, and maybe some dark brown/dark charcoal grey. If you have any colour preferences...?
