At least once when I was in 1st and 2nd grade, I got in trouble for rolling my eyes (not my fault the teacher was so frequently a dumbass) and quickly learned to roll my eyes generally when the teacher was no longer looking.

I once corrected the English teacher's spelling. He had the grace to laugh and agree.

when i was in kindergarten, i got in trouble for rolling my eyes at a teacher, but i didn't even know that "rolling my eyes" was what i was doing! the underlying emotion was correct, though -- and that's how i learned what the phrase meant.

When I was in 5th grade, I rather pointedly rolled my eyes at a teacher reading me and a few friends the riot act. She promptly switched her focus from general moral decay among today's youth to my specific moral failings, explaining (by which I mean, screaming at ear-splitting levels) that such gestures invited demons to enter a person and that no true Christian would ever do a such a thing, and if I continued on that path I would end up in hell.

You really have to love fundamentalists.
