Last time on I've got the peein' dog blues, I had no ideas what to do about my elderly beagle's newly-acquired bad habit of peeing in the hallway at night. Since then there have been several developments. And I can't let my flist get behind, can I?
So that's where we are now: the carpet-laundering stage.
- The dog won't pee in my bedroom no matter what, so I suggested we lock him in at night.
waxjism/
wax_jism said no because the cats would bang on the door, but jokingly suggested I bring my bedroom to him instead.
- Those were fateful words because I actually dragged the guest mattress into the hallway and slept on it, thus blocking the dog's access to the entryway with my body, three nights in a row. SUCCESS. He wasn't going to crawl over me to pee on the floor a meter from my head.
- When
wax_jism got done with her 3-day stint of nightshifts, I left the mattress with bedding in the hall and went to sleep in bed. Perry snuck over it and peed in the hallway again.
- I slept in the hallway for 2 (?) more nights.
- My bud
pierydys posted about using cardboard boxes as a barrier to keep her cat in the livingroom. The night before last, I copied her idea by setting cardboard across the doorway from livingroom to hall, completely blocking access to the entryway.
- The dog didn't pee on the floor that night. Last night I put the cardboard up again. Last night he peed on the carpet in front of the cardboard. FAIL because that was actually only the second carpet casualty in all this mess. Usually he avoids carpets.
So that's where we are now: the carpet-laundering stage.

Most things just mask the odor. this, despite the silly name, is The Stuff. I've saved a sofa and an antique carpet from being tossed by using this stuff and well, it's good. Really good. Will eat up just about any bad smell or bodily fluid you can think of.
I use the old-style AIP, but it looks like they've refined their products further. Good luck.
