So, I was talking with Wax about the fact that Misha Collins who plays Castiel on Supernatural proved that he can fold himself in half by doing so one time on Nip/Tuck, and how fandom deals with this. Being able to bend in half is pretty cool and fairly unusual, of course, but a lot of times the reaction you see in fandom to it, I pointed out, seems to imply that it would be more sexually useful than it is.

I mean, it's a prerequisite for sucking your own dick, but the bendiness required for sex with someone else is quite low, I said.

But Wax quickly pointed out that I was missing the point. "It's because you have to be bendy to fuck someone and suck their dick at the same time!" she said.

"What - but how - I guess it would be possible...," I said doubtfully.

"No, it is, I've seen it," said Wax.

"It seems like that would take really good coordination."

"It does. You have to be coordinated, bendy, and athletic," she informed me.

But the thing is, I'm pretty sure I've read at least six stories dealing directly with Misha's (or Castiel's) bendiness as a result of this story and none of them have even alluded to that!

Which is why, says Wax, "Fandom just doesn't watch enough gay porn."

I have certainly thought of that possibility, but never seen it applied in fandom. In fact, fandom seems to be pretty amazingly vanilla excluding the times they bring out the bdsm (which is once every bluueeee moooon, and usually only involves tying someone up. Or maybe that's just my fandom...)

Actually BDSM is a pretty healthy and active kink and tends to include actual members of the community, and so probably for that reason isn't evenly distributed throughout fandoms. They sort of congregate various places. You can clearly see this by searching delicious for "kink".
