My wife likes the second ones better because they're shiny, and the extra eyelets are clever, and Adam Lambert might wear them someday. Whereas I prefer the first ones' styling, though I would never wear steel toes for everyday - too heavy and, let's face it, I'm a 45-kg-soaking-wet weakling! But Getta Grip has a slightly different styling from ordinary Docs (I think it's a vintage style, though the site didn't mention which year it was from I don't think), and I definitely prefer it to the modern shape.

I've seen the Johari in person; they're very attractive.

The major problem I have with Docs in general is their weight; I am slightly clumsy and shoes that weigh more than I am used to tend to make me trip or bang into things that should not be banged into. Even saying that, I'm still admiring the fit and the lovely tread on the bottom. (Falling on ice is a nightmare; I've done it more than once and it's never good.)

This seems to me a perfectly logical and well-thought-out reason for liking something.

heee. You love writing those words, "my wife", don't you?

Have to say, I like them both in their different ways: I have a 10-eyelet pair of steel-toes, and a) comfy; b) practical for heavy-duty work; c) full calf-muscle workout. The extra eyelets on the second pair do make me smile.

I love my 10-eye Getta Grips, and on the plus side the steeltoe has saved my feet at many a concert. I have big feet (EU 41) and the seam just past the toes makes them look (imaginary perhaps) smaller than an "unbroken" line between foot and toes.

But I gotta ask - the Docs Triumph that you posted about the other day (http://pics.livejournal.com/cimness/pic/00s2gg84) can you point a girl where to buy them? As in any Sweden related chains or at least closer than UK? Because when I looked for them I did find kickass shoes
http://www.drmartens.com/ProductDetail.asp?PID=12107001
but not particularly THOSE.

And according to Docs site there isn't a reseller in Sweden which makes me wonder since I bought my pairs at a Docs shop in Stockholm. (wtf?) Oh well, maybe I'll have to wait till I'm visiting Stockholm...

Oh, ok. If the shipping's free to UK I could have them ordered to BFF's house and then take them home with me as I'm visiting UK in february. (I kinda forgot that it's so soon as it's November already *is bad with calenders*)

Awesome. Thank you for the tip!

At least I'm flying with SAS this time - aka that it's okay with luggage. Last year I flew with Ryanair and ended up paying a fine for too heavy a luggage.

I've never flown across to USA but yeah, I can't imagine putting myself through all that for such a long trip with Ryanair. Short trips to UK and such is ok if I know I'm not gonna have a lot of luggage. But they do fun things as after handing you a slice of overprized pizza - sorry, we're out of cutlery. And napkins. Enjoy. (you couldn't have told me before I had the sticky slice in my hand?!)

And they also changed the weight restrictions for luggae between my trip there and home. Wow surprise (lucky I had a small bag only that time)

Etcetera.

Short trips, no luggage and no real timeschedule is fine. Otherwise you might end up missing connection flights, loose luggage and go hungry :P Some things I've learned to pay a little extra for. (and not all that much either, depending on how busy SAS flights are)
