5. Summary: William Beckett is a shy, quiet, reserved, academically perfect student. Gabe Saporta is a screw off Senior who is one performing arts credit away from not graduating. When Gabe is faced with the decision to repeat his senior year or participate in the school play, he opts for the play, not intending to snag a lead role in the production of Jesus Christ, Superstar. What surprises him even more than his role as Judas in the musical is William Beckett, who holds the role of Jesus. At first, Gabe is dumbfounded by the transformation William undergoes when he is onstage, turning from a shy, quiet loner to a tall, thin powerhouse. As the play continues, Gabe begins to wonder how William can be so loud, so vibrant on stage, when the second he slips out of his role and back into his own skin, the boy can barely speak above a whisper.

Didn't you realize that self-harm is just ONE STEP AWAY from being a homicidal maniac? After all, they both like pain: one to help them control their own emotional pain, and one because they find it amusing to torture and kill other people!

Pairing the Joker with a masochist, or anyone who isn't psychotic a la Harley Quinn, is like... how does that end with anything but the killing joke?

Oh, wait, I know how. The Joker gets a cuddly-Rorschach style rehabilitation. Plus knives.

I think he already gets that in the multitudinous piles of Joker romance after last summer, to be honest. People write him in like, a long-term romantic relationship with Batman.

I don't know about romantic per se, but I could see the Joker in some kind of long-term thing with Batman, because Batman is also completely nuts.

I... doubt many people take that approach, though, from the sound of things. :p

LOL, yes, and I gather that in some versions of comics canon, their relationship could be loosely characterized as a long-term thing (although, okay, probably not romantic there, either). It's the, you know, romantic... dating... relationship... 'Joker has any sort of redeeming qualities/is able to feel affection, and Batman is not only not a sanctimonious judger but is able to form an emotional attachment to and willingly engage in sexual relations with him' part.
