Pikolinos - CailseyHush Puppies - noella

I've had a life-long desire to own several of the outfits from Singin' in the Rain - not just the green satin dress from the Broadway Melody number, which is like, ~sparkly glamour!~, but especially Kathy's green leaf dress from the recording studio and her graduated blue outfit from the "Good Morning" scene. Oh, um, the blue shoes are like the ones in "Good Morning"! Not the same shade of blue, and Kathy's aren't brogued (the piercing along the seams), but the big bow is key. Oh, also, Zelda's dress from the "Thanks, Zelda, you're a real pal" scene. I would wear the shit out of that dress - I would be like Björk and wear it everywhere until it fell off! Okay, not really. Historically, with awesome dresses, I just dress up in them around the house every now and then and never wear them out because it's too fucking cold in Finland.

Unless I'm much mistaken, the shoes from Singing in the Rain are a standard theatrical item called 'character dance shoes', as opposed to ballet flats. You might be able to get them from any online theatrical supply outlet, if you don't find ones elsewhere that you like. I've worn them several times in musical productions; they're reasonably comfortable for dancing and walking.

The style with the heels and the strap across the instep was called "character dance shoes" for the many years or so that I was involved with local theatre. They were generally rented from costuming companies, came in many colors and variations in trim, but the shape of the foot was always the same. (There are no 'non-character dance shoes', as far as I'm aware.) The two types of shoes that were rented for the shows I was in were character dance shoes for musicals and tap shoes (when needed), which sometimes had a lower heel and slightly different shoe structure. Ballet flats were for rehearsals, as well as (occasionally) mime flats, which are broader in the toes.
