I was explaining to my dad the other day how my jury-rigged method for dealing with anxiety aka counterphobic coping mechanism (reading and reading and more reading) isn't necessarily a good thing, even if it does reduce my level of anxiety.
For illustration I used "Put Down the Duckie", sung on Sesame Street to Ernie by Mr Hoots and his jazz band with help from Jeremy Irons, Pee Wee Herman, Paul Simon, and a lot of people I still don't recognize.
I think this should go in my "favorite jazz songs" playlist, as soon as I get an mp3.
...Or, more explicitly, after an anxious social situation (eg class each Tuesday) my upset engenders such a powerful compulsive need to cling to something to read that I sometimes find it impossible to stop reading, even if I really need to do something else like laundry or eating or sleeping.
