Throw away underwear that doesn't fit anymore or is worn out
22 (42.3%)

Keep it "just in case"
7 (13.5%)

Keep it, but only to a certain point of shame
23 (44.2%)

The thing is, every time I end up wearing the "just in case" underwear, I curse myself for keeping it like twenty times, so I wonder if it would be smarter to just throw it out and trust that I would notice it was time to do the laundry?

It is especially stupid for me to keep underwear and socks, because I have SO MUCH of both. Like, a month's supply, easily.

TMI: I keep the not-so-nice underwear for my period. Once it's actually got holes it's gone, but other than that, it just goes into my for that time of month/oops, time to do laundry pile.

Ooh, that's smart! I'll have to look into that. I've only just recently been able to throw out things in disrepair/wrong sizes, and if I had a plan for my period, I could get rid of those pairs that bite into my hips or fall down. \o/

...it took me a really long time to register 'oh, maybe when there are frayed, gaping holes in the sides of your underwear, you should/can actually throw them away.' I noted them on about the same level I'd note pretty flower patterns on a different pair. I don't know what this says about me? >.>

I throw out underwear that doesn't fit at all, but keep ratty underwear and underwear that fits badly.

I keep both underwear and socks until they're so worn I can't wear them anymore. I just threw away a pair of underwears where the band was ripped halfway off and kept ripping more each time I pulled them on and off. With socks, I'll wear them if they have holes, but if they holes are in the toe area and my toes poke out, I'll toss them, because I hate the feeling of one or two toes poking out.

My problem is the idea of throwing away dirty underwear is creepy and gross, so I always toss 'em in the laundry then forget which pair needed to be thrown out.

I keep it just in case, but not just in case of running out... I keep it to wear during my period just in case I bleed through the pad. Which usually happens at least once every time. :-/

Hee.

I never seem to see black underwear in the style I like, but maybe it's time to do some online shopping for it, because that's a great idea... and then I could toss out all this underwear with holes in it. :-)

All my underpants are black cotton in a very similar style, so it's easy to forget which ones are completely terribly fitting and awkward to wear and I should throw out. Of course, these are almost always the pairs I end up wearing to work. Socks pretty much have to be either full of holes or completely stretched out of shape before I throw them out. Socks I keep unless my toes are hanging out, or the hole at the heel is the size of my heel.

I'm like that with shoes, too. They could be completely falling apart and full of holes and the most decrepit things ever, but I'll still keep them 'just in case'. The only time I ever seem to throw these kinds of shoes out is when I'm moving house, and even then there's almost always a pair that escapes being turfed.

The actual problem I have is that a lot of my socks are white athletic socks I bought in packs of 3 or more, so it actually makes sense to only throw out the one with an actual hole in it when they get holes.

But I am starting to suspect that I have worked my way through all but one or all but three of certain packs of white athletic socks, but I can't tell for sure. So I have all of these unmatched white socks, which might get matches the next time I do laundry.

It makes me crazy (and I have a similar problem with black trouser socks) and I don't know what to do.
