My supply of comfortable jeans that are loose enough to go over long underwear in the middle of winter is completely exhausted this year (and I only have one pair that are uncomfortable but go over long underwear and aren't way too big), and I was starting to get worried about availability.

You see, the painted-on skinny jeans reign so supreme just now that H&M's current fall line has phased out everything else except their overly tight and high-waisted bootcut style, which I don't like both because it comes up to my belly button and because the bottoms are too full to conveniently tuck into 14-hole boots. I tried Zara, no luck, Vero Moda, no luck, Viva, no luck, and started looking online at jeans stores, where if you shop when they're not having a clearance sale the jeans cost like 50-80€, which is half again what I'm happy to pay for pants that I'm not desperately in love with. But I tried two jeans shops and even their selection didn't have a single women's style that met the criteria I was looking for: straight-leg was the most relaxed fit in the online shops and most of them were high- or regular-waisted, which I hate with burning passion.

I was starting to think I'd have to give up entirely, but I happened to spot a pair of those so-called "Boyfriend Style" jeans1 in the window of Kapp Ahl, aka Some Tragic Casual Corner. Usually my sole interest in Kapp Ahl's window displays is to laugh at them! I don't care though! I bought the only pair they had in my size.

#fuck shopping for clothes #but especially jeans #ugh

1. a name which I find as irritatingly twee as it is offensively heteronormative and gendered-clothing normative in a way that's frankly just plain stupid since it's not like women haven't been wearing loose-fitting pants, and men tight-fitting pants, for a really long time now.

Yeah, jeans-shopping is actually why I gave up on slacks and started wearing skirts all the time. ...sadly, I'm completely serious.

I keep meaning to buy a pair from these folks: http://makeyourownjeans.com/ as last I checked they were asking very reasonable prices, just to have a pair that actually, genuinely fits. (The last time I had to buy a pair -- which was not voluntarily, but due to work -- I found one pair at Penney's in my size, in a style I didn't hate, and it was on sale for like $15, lo the shopping gods smiled upon me: but even with all that, they fall off my ass without a belt, so it's not ideal.)

Ahhhhh, yes. I have the same problem! Regular-waist jeans come up to my ribcage, so "low rise" is pretty much my only option. (Even those often have the sagging crotch issue; it's a rare pair of jeans that does not form a V at my groin, and when I stumble upon an exception I buy as many as I can!)
