We don't only have dog diapers because we have a disgusting old dog. We also have a disgusting old cat!

"Our lives... so full of pee." - [personal profile] waxjism

Perry is what I like to call eleventy-one in dog years. That is to say, he's 15½ish, or 108½ish using the *7 formula, but he's a beagle and the beagle lifespan is 12-15 years, so.

Anyway, the Crazy, aka Tea, is Wax's first cat, bought when she was in college, and she is the same age as Perry, but the Cornish Rex expected lifespan is longer than the beagle one. The only bits of her that have stopped working recently is she's had what seemed to be a bladder infection a couple of months ago which led to a period of peeing on everything and being really sad, when we made a nest for her out of fleece blankets and the Crazy bed inside the sauna, with her own food and litterbox, where she could be warm and away from the other cats. She got better in a week and stopped visiting the sauna frequently, except to eat special Kidney Care food with the door closed where Snookums couldn't steal it.

On the other hand, many things were already wrong with her: anxiety and social anxiety, simultaneous under- and over-stimulation (all the time), a skin condition leading to itchy baldness and scaly skin and acne, an irritable tummy, a complete lack of personal hygiene, a chronic heart condition, weakening kidneys, and an increasingly lopsided underbite that pulls her face down on one side and makes her look like Igor-meets-Gollum-meets-Gremlins. (Vet's assistant on her last visit, in startlement: "What is that creature?!")

After the Crazy's recent illness, we left the small, shallowly-filled litterbox in the sauna under the bench, for her occasional repeat visits, which occurred once a week at least, where she'd get upset and go to sleep in there, and then we'd shut her in by herself until she wanted out. But she hadn't used it in quite a while so maybe a week ago Wax emptied it out and washed it, and put it back in the sauna in case it needed to be filled again later.

Only then, apparently, the Crazy started feeling badly again. We discovered giant poop outside the sauna, in the shower room, and we thought it had to be the dog's even though we couldn't figure out how he was getting in there to leave it. Then we started discovering pee on the shower floor that kept having to be cleaned up, and again blamed the dog at first, even though we had no idea why he'd pee in there when he rarely even enters the room. But then I discovered pee back behind a barrier of furniture where he couldn't have reached, and when I got down there this morning to mop into the sauna, I tracked it back to the empty cat litter box. The Crazy has been peeing in it (while it's empty) and around it, so that it was glued to the floor with drying pee, probably for several days. I also found more giant poo way back under the benches and even older, some of them quite small, all liberally sprinkled with clay dust and pee and generally it was just supremely gross to mop up. EUGHH.

And this after the second night where Perry wore a belly band to sleep, and all I had to do was clean up after some perfectly small poop that was politely placed in front of the bathroom door like in the old days! And I was thinking, "Wow, this is so nice! My quality of life has gone way up this weekend! The worst is surely over."

HAH HAH.

So maybe we'll be back to the Vet with the Crazy soon. I hope not though. :(
