I've started following Unfuck Your Habitat on Tumblr.

I have not so far made my bed, but I have managed to chip away at some things via "5/10", 5 timed minutes of cleaning followed by 10 minutes off. Specifically the dishes and the tea table.

As a consequence of reducing the bulk of dishes by about half, I was inspired to put together the pan/lid rack we got at Ikea and put it in the too-cavernous pots'n'pans cabinet, and the difference is staggering. I need to get another one of them, though. Maybe I'll go to Ikea next week.

I've also suddenly looked around and noticed some things that didn't even register in my mind as in need of cleaning before - little oases like shelves and baskets that, not having a designated purpose, turned into pretty awful gathering places for junk.

I've been looking at that for a while, but self-sabotage and inertia are stronger forces (which means that there will be another session with the shredder and maybe more recycling. Right now it's aaaiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, which is not helpful). I do need new bookshelves, though. Hmmmmmmm.

Congratulations on your unfuckery! It's amazing what suddenly ceases to be invisible. And being given permission to STOP for a little bit as long as you start up again really, really helps with the self-hatred. So much love for ufyh!

Yeah, I was surprised how useful it was... but I've done all this work on a 4-day weekend, so I have yet to test the method against the demands of regular life.
