Dip pen calligraphy #1: fail

Dry watercolors that require loading the pen with a paintbrush are way too much trouble.

I've gotta buy some sepia ink I guess.

How about doing calligraphy with a shaped paintbrush?

It's a different skill and one that interests me less, but I might look into it in the future some time after I've gotten comfortable with the basics of the flat-tipped pen. Also, of course, I have a lot more experience wielding a paintbrush for a variety of purposes, so there's less initial novelty to the idea and not nearly as many new art supplies.
