I was idly fantasizing that they might replace our hot water heater this week and then caught myself because it's too unrealistic when we know nothing. Better not get my hopes up.
We're running out of nightshirts and pajama pants, but we can't borrow MIL's BFF's washing machine yet because she's sick - stomach flu, maybe? BIL's place is an inconveniently long drive for doing laundry and also they have six people in their household. Laundromats, my wife tells me, aren't really a thing in rural places like this, at least not for private use. (There are some of those in Turku of course.)
I've been too stressed to use my fountain pens, not having a proper space to spread out the supplies and use them safely without making a mess, and as a result some of them have leaked in the pen case and now all the pens that were in it need to be washed, and the fountain pens probably all need to be flushed and dried. But like. That's a lot of washing to do with ice-cold water... and also the bathroom sink doesn't have a table surface near it and the kitchen sink here is the worst: it's round and way too small and the counter around it is ALSO too small, and the water pressure is too high and the water is always splashing all over the counter whenever you try to use it. And cleaning fountain pens in non-running water is possible, of course, but it's a lot more time-consuming and a lot more of a pain. But it is really getting on my nerves being stuck with fineliners and black or blue ink. I can't even find the green and purple gel pens; it's awful.
Other things I (we) can't find and have been doing without:

Other things I (we) can't find and have been doing without:
- All my spice jars. We gave up and bought a bunch of spices in envelopes several weeks ago, but not all of them. I'm always forgetting one when I put the ingredients for a dish on the shopping list.
- My sweatpants
- My most comfortable pair of sneakers
- Strainers and sieves
- Icecream scoop (My wife and MIL never use them anyway and think I'm weird)
- Washable baking tray liners (we've been using parchment paper since we got here)
- Most of our tupperwares
- My favorite sweatshirt and my favorite shawl
- The cover to one of the footcubes
- One of our three favorite sets of sheets, which we originally had with us at MIL's old flat
- About half of Wax's tshirts - the half she doesn't wear as often, but as mentioned: no washing machine
