a glimmer of light

Our contractor has had the flu, but he started trying to find out what happened with our water heater and it turns out that it was being managed by the plumber in charge on our project, who's been absent the past week with a sudden dire family emergency and whose partner has understandably not caught up with all of both their work yet. The water heater probably should have turned up last week some time though, so he will attempt to locate it and arrange for someone else to install it.
This won't fix our laundry problem, which results from the bathroom where our washing machine will be not having a floor (or a subfloor, or the inner faces of walls for that matter), and that is a bit delayed because the apprentice who will be building in all the water isolation for the room as his end-of-apprenticeship exam has to go to classes 3 days a week right now (he's doing a great job in his available time though). The room where MIL's washing machine was going to go still hasn't been dried out after our flooding and also, turns out to be the one room in the basement that's going to need to have its floor jackhammered out and all the plumbing underneath replaced; and the water has already been turned off to the hookup that was used by the previous owner, which is located slightly more conveniently in the one corner of the flooded garage that didn't flood (still very damp though, and you can still smell all the damp from the rest of the basement which hasn't been dried all the way yet). Maybe, with any luck, a more junior plumber can hook those back up in the meantime though. We can but hope.
But in the even meaner-meantime, I learned on my walk today that there's a laundry room along with a sauna down at the harbor for the use of people who come in living on their boats, so for five euros and ten minutes' walk I should be able to do a load of laundry tomorrow before we run out of underwear and pajamas.

I am very pleased for you! ^_^
My washing machine is broken, and I've been to exhausted to ring the repair company yet [I also had flooded carpet to deal with, not from the washing machine, which broke in a dry manner]
so much empathy and solidarity from me!
