The temporary hot water heater that they installed for us to use while we wait for the replacement geothermal one to arrive...

... it suddenly stopped working today after we'd been wallpapering for 8 hours and my hair was full of wallpaper glue powder and paint chips and Wax had only been in the shower 2 minutes. We don't know why yet because we were too tired to go look at it.

We only had time to shower twice before it stopped working again!

I almost burst into tears but then I realized I was too tired to produce any and I just moaned and whimpered a bit instead.

You really have had way more than your share of moving/house buying bad luck. I'm so sorry.

It really seems like it, doesn't it? It's not as unlikely as like... getting heads 10 times in a row in a coin toss, though, because most of the misfortunes are related to or partially caused by the previous ones.

In this case it turned out to be caused by the workers who were here fixing some related problems and somebody had unplugged it and left it unplugged and it happened to be made in such a way that when Wax and I examined it, we didn't see that it was unplugged because there was a big tangle of cables coming out from under it and one of them just happened to be uncoupled. The guy who came to fix it just plugged it back in. All the facepalm.

I hope your luck turns and you start to feel the inertia give way to acceleration! It seems to happen all at once.. stuck in the mess and chaos for ages and then suddenly! The improvements are real!

I compare it to when you have to pull everything out a cupboard to tidy it and you feel despair in the interim because all you’ve done is made a huge mess.

That is good to hear! It's getting harder to visualize it actually happening the longer we spend camping and on tenterhooks.

I'm very much looking forward to the time when our finish date depends on our own labor and not that of our contractors, though. I like them all a lot, but they are all busy and short on time they can spend here.

I had the city inspector in yesterday to make sure my new stuff wasn't going to flood the neighborhood with poison gas or whatever. It somehow ended with him removing the ugly basement accordion door that nobody has ever liked.

I think it also offended him on an aesthetic level. If so, he wasn't wrong.

We inherited it from the previous owners, who did stuff like run a 50-f00t pirate cable line through booth floors, stapling it to the walls, and painting over it. There was also a closet with Cornhusker football helmet wallpaper.

Amazing mental image of this closet. That's one of those things that should be in horror movie but the horror movies never seem to have enough imagination.

The actual room was done in red candy-striped paper that somehow managed to be a completely different shade of red.

It's got some kinda pink rosebud shit now that I loathe, but is still better than candy-stripe red.
