A UTI for a cat with kidney disease can be related to a worsening of the condition, but it looked to the vet like BB's was just an infection. They did some tests and actually didn't have to sedate her (so she didn't decide to go Kill Bill this time), and she came home extremely high which took till midnight or something to wear off, and then she got another 2 doses of painkillers and another course of Cyst-Aid and seems to be doing fine. Yay!

My dad apparently doesn't have pneumonia, but rather a mystery fluid around his lungs. The doctors aren't sure why but they've got him on medications and doing breathing exercises multiple times per hour and he's being waited on hand and foot in the ICU. One good thing about being quadriplegic, says my dad, is that you know even when the hospital is full the ICU will always haul ass to make room for you. My parents indicated to their UU congregation that they'd like visitors and his room has been hopping. Two people arrived just while we were video chatting last night.

We haven't figured out what to do about the accidentally purple parquet floor. We haven't rebuilt the bunny cage either, because, well, it's pretty impossible the way the livingroom is right now. We can't make two adjoining bunny cages (so they can cuddle or sniff through the bars) where we can reach to open both of them and that both have adequate space inside in the current space without rearranging everything, or so it seems. We haven't tried with like, graph paper and a scale model, I guess. IDK.

Our washing machine can't be hooked up without a plumber (and an electrician) but we can't pay the 10k€ plumber's bill that he told us not to worry about for the present, which sounds a lot to me like we can't really ask them to come do additional work. Like, if they just were going to spontaneously do it anyway - we talked months ago about what was going in that bathroom and that the washing machine was the most urgent bit - and on the last bathroom they didn't wait for cues from us, but the builders called the plumbers themselves and they coordinated amongst themselves and basically finished it all up with little to no input from us. So if they'd done that, fine, but calling them and reminding them especially to do the extra work without being able to pay them? My parents say there's no reason not to ask, which is like, sure, in formal logic or statistics or whatever, but in terms of politeness... I mean, it's not something that I'm happy to do. Maybe if we accompany it with a partial payment - Wax's aunt is gonna loan us 3k€? But, like, we've been without a washing machine since June which means we've done one load of hand wash (usually would use the hand wash cycle, which the laundromat doesn't have) and NO loads of rugs (I would typically launder rugs every 2 weeks because we use a pile of about 15 bathmats and area rugs on the floor to allow the bunnies to walk around without slipping)... and now I'm like, are we going to be without laundry for a YEAR? [INSERT DO NOT WANT MEME]

On a lighter note, my sister has decided to start making scented candles as a hobby. I know people enjoy candles and perfumes, and I know she's not going to give them to ME anyway, but I have such a visceral reaction to scented candles as one of the worst offenders to my perfume sensitivity - I tend to swaddle my entire head and then hold my breath and speedwalk through the scented candle section at Ikea, which I call the Stinky Department - that it's very hard to consider this hobby rationally and without suspicion. Part of me is fairly convinced that scented candles don't really need to exist at all in the world. It would be one thing to be crushing up fruit peels and flowers - which never make me sneeze - but anything called a "scent oil" or any other sort of perfume is suspicious as fuck to my mind. I mean, I didn't tell her not to do it, although I maybe encouraged her to look for some recipes and info on using the ingredients (like the flowers or fruit bits) directly. Or making unscented candles. I can't shake the emotional conviction that it's my duty to attempt to reduce the quantity of evil room environment perfume pollution in the world because who knows who else feels sensitive, like me, and is going to be ambushed when innocently walking into these candle recipients' spaces by these evil perfumes? Honestly fuck perfumes all together. (I didn't even label this post as an unpopular opinions meme...)

If you can convince your sis to only ever distill her own fragrances and use those, you would be doing us all a huge favour, tbh. Distillation isn't even hard, the scent is often milder and doesn't have a ton of binder, which I think is the part that makes stearing "scented" candles so unpleasant to be around? Burning stearin releases its own microparticles into the air but the particles from the scent oils often don't burn as neatly and are much more harsh to breathe in.

My husband is in the service trades and I would definitely vote for calling and asking if they could go ahead and hook up the washer. Offering to pay for just that part would be great. They really do understand about the estate problem. It's a huge amount of money to you and a nice amount to them but it's probably not their biggest outstanding bill by a long shot.

Sending good wishes about the bunny dilemma. Glad the cat is doing better.

As a person who has dealt with animal stains on parquet plenty of times, the only thing you can do is cover it or replace it. Once that chemical reaction has occurred it sinks into the material and you can't sand it out, can't paint over it, etc ... just have to replace.

It's not just you on the scents. I can barely navigate the "laundry soaps and dryer sheets" aisle in most stores. Like, it's eye-bleedingly bad. There's a lot of fragrance floating around in the world in all sorts of products and most people don't seem to notice.

Oh, man, why are dryer sheets a thing? :/

Oh, no, I hope the washer situation can be resolved without bloodshed.

Good news for BB, it sounds like! So glad she seems to be doing okay (and didn't have to to murderkitty on anyone!) and that the bun is also recovering.

I wish your sister luck with the candle thing; maybe she will try some experiments with fresh herbs/flowers/peels. I always think they look pretty pressed into candles, even if they don't have a smell.

(I am... really weird about scented stuff. On the one hand, I'm sensitive to smells and dislike 90% of the fragranced stuff I encounter. On the other hand, when I find one I really like, it's like magic! Yesterday I stuck my nose in a candle labeled "Pine Needles and Cranberry" in the expectation of hilarious horror, because how could that not be awful? Instead, I had to make myself stop sniffing it and walk out of the shop without it. I put it on my Christmas wishlist, though, so maybe Candle Loving Aunt will buy me one!)
