cimorene: Woman in a tunic and cape, with long dark braids flying in the wind, pointing ahead as a green dragon flies overhead (welsh)

I've been doing all this reading of detective fiction and now we apparently need to hire a detective, because we've now looked in all the places we can think of in MIL's reach where she could have stored the good china and the silver without finding it.

It's not like the boxes would be small; there's a limited amount of places you can store that quantity of china or silver!

And as far as locations, there's this house, which she never had access to except with us carrying the stuff in for her - including the boatshed; there's the cottage, and the guest cottage at the cottage. We've looked in the shed, the guest cottage, and the attic now, so unless the china is hidden under the bench in the sauna, we can't think of anywhere else to look. And it doesn't seem like the sort of stuff she could have found the time (or inclination) to get rid of without mentioning it to us. Plus, why would she get rid of her silver tableware but not the serving implements? I'm pulling out my hair here.

I feel like I'm in one of those golden age detective mysteries with a missing will, or a missing heirloom jewelry, or something.

Have you seen it before? Is the silver all in one box?

Did she pack up the china herself? It might be in lots of smaller boxes.

Or maybe she gave it to a relative already.

I have been involved in packing up and cleaning out homes of more than a couple relatives and I have such enormous sympathy for what you are going through.

Small victories! Each one is a mood lifter.

Cheering for you both.
