I'm going to finally tour Prague!" and I'm just like, the vaccine estimates were 18 months and we don't know about subsequent waves: you're probably going to be at home next summer, dudes. Me and my friends had plans to go to TF Nation in August and you can feel how much none of us want to bring up the fact that it'll probably be cancelled :(

I was interested to see that WorldCon in New Zealand is going online only, which was very intriguing at first until I saw the other day they are still charging 150 bucks even though it's now a bunch of video conferences instead of a convention... that reminds me that I should try to find wherever the Discourse about that is.

At any rate, I expect a lot of conventions and conferences in the near future will be making that transition, and it's a lot less fun than a physical convention but at least it's better than nothing.

Oh man, yes. I’m trying hard not to think about the reality of how long we will need to practice some form of distancing primarily because I am an extrovert who lives alone and I think I’ll have a breakdown if I really think about it? But I am also a physician, still working though the majority of visits are now via telemedicine, and so I am being pretty strict about the distancing to keep my family safe from me.

One of my cousins is planning her destination wedding, which is to take place in September. I don’t have the heart to say, “...I don’t see it happening.” But I really don’t see how this is sufficiently in check to make such an event possible.

Wow, that takes balls though, to go ahead with planning a destination wedding that soon?! I hope everything's refundable!!!

She actually flew back from Charleston (the destination) days before the governor started shutting things down. I think she hasn’t realized yet that travel and group gatherings are highly unlikely to be safe anytime soon

Feels pointless to be the party pooper, but on the other hand I'm not sure if living in denial for a while first is going to help. Maybe the idea is to get people used to it and then be like "Hahah just a little longer...!" but surely the downside to all the planning they're not going to be doing will cancel out any psychological benefit the populace is getting from that?
