The last time I ran out of insulin for Snookums earlier than expected: mostly because I tried to calculate how many doses were left in the pen, but calculated wrong. Maybe because the pen is only marked in 10s and the doses are 1 or 2 ccs, or maybe because you actually use more than you give the cat because you have to...idk, prime the needle or whatever. So there's no air.
(It's been a year so if I paid attention I could totally know exactly how many days it lasts.)
Anyway, I had to call the vet to refill the prescription, they called the pharmacy and I walked to get it while Wax was at work. Then when I came home I was like, this next time, I need to contact the vet before we run out, as soon as I open the last pen, so there's plenty of time.
What happened? As soon as I opened the last pen I started saying "I really need to email the vet" several times a day, but it wasn't urgent, so I didn't ever feel up to it quite yet and it kept slipping my mind... until... yesterday I for some reason thought there were three doses left so it was okay that I put off emailing all day because I forgot it was Friday. So now it's Saturday morning and I discovered at 8 that I was wrong, there are zero more doses! I had to call the urgent care clinic that serves Snookums's vet to ask for a phone refill and the vet isn't in until 10. Luckily Snookums has been very healthy lately and the delayed dose isn't affecting him. Also luckily the pharmacy is still open till 3 pm in spite of the pandemic.
