Love how you can prepare exactly 1 meal in the microscopic 1-person kitchen for MIL that we've been forced to use since last July. After that, if you don't wash all the dishes and clear all of the implements off the counters, you don't have enough space to prepare anything else.
If you do it anyway by dint of shuffling a stack of stuff next to the sink/the stove/the counter/the floor, you will have to move it multiple times during food prep (unless you put it on the floor outside the kitchen I guess - then you wouldn't have to move it to walk around... I've never done that though), i.e. out of the sink to the counter to use the sink, but then back to the sink or to the floor when you need the counter. And after you've finished the second thing (e.g. if you bake something right before preparing dinner and don't stop in the middle to do all the dishes because you're too hungry), it will look like an explosion hit.
In fact, yesterday we only made dinner, consisting of two dishes, and we'd already done the dishes right before it, but the sink and sink area barely has enough space to fill a glass or put two bowls of catfood on the counter, there's stuff on the floor, and the stove is inaccessible.
I realized this morning we've gone so long without any progress on OUR kitchen (apart from... painting two walls outside of it yesterday in preparation for finishing the wallpapering... indirect progress) that I've forgotten what layout we ultimately decided on. Fantasizing about it being finished has receded into vague mistiness like "I'll put a bench under this window".

Date: 4 May 2020 07:01 pm (UTC)... it's just that an inconvenient kitchen is capable of irritating you every single day, again and again, like... every time you make food, and in the moment of yelling at the kitchen it's easy to lose track of the positive progress we've made in other areas!
