Confusion reigns

It's Thursday and the counters still are not completely installed. Yesterday I started to wonder if it would be faster for us to just do it ourselves, but I didn't fully understand the directions that explain how you're supposed to do that so I think it's probably best the contractors do. They did START to install them at least. They've rounded off the front edge and sanded them smooth. And they've put up a ton of trim. I'm waiting with bated breath, here. It feels so close! I can almost taste it! But why haven't they actually installed them yet? They said they would. Are they waiting for us to do something first? ("Wouldn't they tell us then?" said Wax. "Not if they thought we already knew.") Maybe they just didn't have enough time here today. Or maybe they need two people.

Installing counters at our place required two people. They were surprisingly heavy and it seemed faster for someone to be holding and working the top while the other person did stuff underneath. Mine are some kind of block laminate so you can scratch it and it's the same underneath and they still needed a sealing thing on them which took a while too.

If it's the same substance all the way through, it's solid surface - acrylic resin - or quartz - ground up quartz in resin. It's possible that's heavier than butcher block. But of course butcher block is still really heavy. It would make sense that they'd need two people, potentially.
