I already made TWO phone calls today and in one of them I had to spell my last name about seven times before she got it so basically I feel so proud of myself I'm about to cry and I wish I could think of something more rewarding to do than just lounging here and eating all the accidentally-tastes-like-glögg pie I want.
To make an accidental glögg pie, first defrost a ton of red currants with the intent of making a traditional red-currants-in-creamy-custard pie, and only then discover you're out of eggs. Google for possible recipes and turn up nothing but a French-style tart (berries, sugar and dabs of butter). Make that, but add some spices to make it a little more interesting, plus all the crushed almonds you can fit in, because you need to use up these almonds before they spoil.
There you go, the same spice profile ("warming spices") as in mulled wine, more or less: they're not all there but the resemblance is. Glögg is also made with the addition of red- or blackcurrant cordial and served with spoonfuls of sliced almonds and raisins in the glass, so the only thing missing from this pie is red wine, really.
Speaking of pride, although that's not exactly the word, I'm pretty surprised that my design blog
designobjectory is gaining followers so fast. I missed when it passed 1000 and now it's over 1200. I suppose pure aesthetic blogs with minimal other content are simply way more popular than I realized. That's enough traffic to get some truly bizarre notifications on the notifications page, although not as many as you might assume because another thing about aesthetic blogs is evidently that most people reblog them with no comment or tags; but there's a surprising number of

- your wife says "What else goes with cinnamon? Ginger?"
- "Yeah. And cloves. A bit of nutmeg if you want."

- people who seem to have a really weird understanding of the comment function on Tumblr; do they know that OP gets those comments as like, a message, and that nobody else sees them unless they click to check the notes on purpose? Why would you want to say that to ME?
- people who tag things with some variant of "oc" or something like that: is your oc a teacup, or are you just saying that you want to remember your oc owns this teacup? Is it this particular teacup - so your OC, I guess, is collecting valuable antique Russian empire china? - or just a teacup that looks like this, so pretty gilded pastel shit?
- The number of people who think that chess pieces look a bit like butt plugs isn't surprising but the number of people who think this is an original thought on their part and a really witty one is a bit eye-opening.
- one person wrote like an entire daily diary entry in the tags, like paragraphs long. I remain bemused.
- just seeing WHICH things get notes is always interesting because it's never the ones you think. Sort of like if you have three fics in a fandom, they're going to be popular in exactly the reverse order of how much you like them and judge their quality; the most popular posts are definitely not my favorites or even my favorites of that particular sort of thing, because they happen sort of at random of course - they must depend on coming to the attention of someone who's a node of sorts, and who a lot more people reblog from. This isn't true of my pet pictures blog, by the way! It's not remotely surprising which pictures there are the most popular; they're without question the cutest and best. This only applies to Aesthetic stuff.

I never understood Tumblr and don't go there unless linked, but clearly it's the right platform for what you are doing! Hurray!

Date: 8 Mar 2021 05:24 pm (UTC)This blog WOULDN'T interest my ACTUAL prospective employers, in retail of stuff vaguely related to home stuff. It would if I was applying to be a set designer or interior designer or stylist or personal shopper, or to work in one of those expensive design-only antiques stores... which are really my dream jobs in the field I suppose, but way too freelancey and go-getter for my personality type and I don't have the degrees people look for for them... and there aren't any of those sorts of stores around here. But my train of thought led me to this idea and then it was very very compelling because I love curating things, I guess, and I am having a lot of fun.
