You know, every now and then I hear something about 'hate follows' and I just can't comprehend spending your time in that way, in terms of social media.

But I've just realized that there's one social media site where I kind of do that: Ravelry! I don't actually hate anyone (that I follow in any way, that is - there have been some racism kerfluffles and the like that have revealed some awful users, but they were strangers to me) on Ravelry, so it's more... fascinated-and-curious-but-mostly-for-mocking follow. Some people have almost a genius for consistently and prolifically designing things, or modifying existing designs, or just choosing colors or sizes, or even choosing combinations of yarn and pattern, that just aesthetically or practically speaking look terrible.

Just about twice a week I have cause to exclaim something like, "Oh no, why! Why would you do that! It's dis bitch again!" and show Wax something on my feed from Rav. These are genuinely fun to examine, since the underlying source of curiosity - figuring out what went wrong, or how their brain works, or what they were going for - is pretty low-stakes. It never irritates me in the way that reading bad writing can do (although I do, sometimes, go fic spelunking, and read badfic, for fun), but that's perhaps the nearest comparison I can make since the judgment is aesthetic. I don't have any other social networks where I'm just engaging visually with some sort of art. (I mean, Tumblr is a highly visual site, but only a small portion of my dash is actually art.)

Pffff, I guess I'd call that a bemusement follow?

this makes me super curious and I kinda want to ask who these people are so I can gawk at their productions also (while a little scared I might be one of them, although since I haven't posted anything new on Rav for years I very much doubt it)
