Adhd medication, first try
2 Aug 2023 12:16 pmI didn't want to try my new ADD medicine on vacation and have nothing to do, but I also didn't want to be taken by surprise at work by any side effects, so I went ahead and took my first half-tablet today at home. I was planning to work on restoring the antique dresser that stands in the upstairs hall alcove and which I keep my makeup on. (It's probably from somewhere from the late 19th century to 1940s or so, definitely made by a small-time craftsman, with rough-hewn boards making up the drawers and visible axe marks, but the wood is solid and very aged; the original hardware, which sadly has to be replaced, is art nouveau style and brass. Two of the drawers need gluing, the front legs are wobbly, and there are huge chips in the veneer on the drawer fronts.)
But it's still rainy today and Snookums and Anubis both sat on my lap pretty much as soon as I swallowed it, so now I've been sitting here an hour and I've finished my tea and my elbow is getting really fatigued from supporting the weight of a silky, muscular, very large (for a cat) fully-grown toddler. I think I do feel something - just an impatience to get up and do stuff right now, but also I'm reclining under these guys so still unaware if there are head rushes waiting.
You have to get an ecg before AD(H)D prescriptions to make sure your heart seems okay, and my first one ever showed an atypical form, apparently. The cardiologist called me and asked if I've had any heart or chest symptoms, or any of the well-known ones typically associated with heart attacks, but I haven't, really, except some chest pains infrequently, which I've always put down to anxiety symptoms. He told me that it was nothing to worry about without more symptoms and my psychiatrist would probably okay it, and indeed, she did, saying that everyone's ecg is a little different and mine was atypical but not with any concerning features, unless it had shown a deviation from my previous heart rhythm. We don't have any earlier ones to compare though. But she said that I should go ahead and try the medication at a half dose and talk to her after two weeks of it, so that's what I'm doing.
... Maybe I should rename my Executive Dysfunktion* tag to ADD...
*autocorrect randomly putting one word only into Swedish. Okay then.
